Fishing Departments: Similar to the size of counties in the UK/USA, the French fishing authorities govern regional fishing by department. Licences issues by Fish and Fun Brittany are for the department of Finistère.
Fishing Hours: For public freshwaters, you can start fishing one half hour before sunrise and must cease one half hour after sunset. This applies to both class 1 (trout/salmon) and class 2 (other species) waters.
70 Standard Adult Annual Fishing Licence 'Personne Majeure' (valid from 1 Jan to 31 Dec). This is the adult male (18+) annual fishing permit for the department of Finistère. This licence allows the female angler to fish Finistère's public waters including reservoir St Michel, plus all waters within the L'EHGO/CHI departments. Fantastic value for the female angler. Not valid per se for salmon/sea trout fishing.
10 Young Adult's Fishing licence 'Personne Mineure' (good from 1 Jan to 31 Dec). Young people between 12 years old who have not reached their 18th birthday by 1 January 2011. Allows fishermen to fish the department of Finistère including reservoir St Michel plus 33 other French departments within the L'EHGO system plus 36 French departments under the CHI system for the complete year. Not valid per se for salmon/sea trout fishing.
2 Under 12 Children's Licence 'Carte Decouverte' (good from 1 Jan to 31 Dec). Children born after 1 January 1999. 10 day/20 annual Reservoir St Michel Permit To fish this lake you MUST POSSESS a Finistère fishing permit (e.g. annual, holiday, daily etc) or L'EHGO fishing licence. Licence holders can opt to purchase a St Michel day permit or St Michel annual permit if they desire to fish 2 days or more on the lake. Those anglers wanting to solely fish this reservoir can do so by purchasing a timbre journaliere (day fishing stamp) for 10 which can be affixed to the St Michel permit. Total cost for to day fish St Michel on its own is 20 (10 for day stamp plus 10 for St Michel permit).
30 Salmon Stamp 'timbre migrateurs' (good for the complete migratory salmon season) This stamp is available for purchase to those anglers possessing any of the Finistère or L'EHGO fishing permits. Stamp includes one plastic capture tag or 'BAG'. Additional plastic capture tags are available for free from any tackle shop, participating sporting goods stores or local AAPPMA offices after you have taken your first salmon.

Salmon (saumon): size limit depends on what period you are fishing: click here
Pike (brochet): 65cm in St Michel Reservoir (aka: Lac du St Michel). You cannot start fishing for pike in this lake until 1 May 2010.
Pike (brochet): 60cm in the Nantes to Brest canal and related class 2 waters. Pike fishing is authorised for the month of January, then from mid May to 31 December.
Rainbow trout (truit arc en ciel): 30cm for St Michel reservoir.
Black bass (largemouth bass): 30cm
Zander (sandre): 40cm in the Nantes to Brest canal and related class 2 waters. fishing is authorised for the month of January, then from mid May to 31 December.
Sea trout (truite de mer): 35cm
Allis shad (Alose): 30cm
Brown trout (truite fario or truite sauvage): 20cm (length restrictions may vary according to region, consult Sam if you plan on pursuing wild trout outside the immediate fishing region unless your are a catch and release angler.
Juvenile salmon (parr or smolt): must be returned immediately regardless of size.
