The Perfection Loop

As a professional fishing guide, one of the most common questions I get is 'What knot do you use for this situation...?' Followed, of course by, 'How do you tie it?'

So I have now started this section to help those budding fishermen/women who want to match a good knot for the tackle/fishing situation at hand. I will add more knots as time flows by.

Although the then editor of the fishing magazine from which the scan below came desperately wanted his readership to think that he was clever chap in introducting a great new-fangled knot to his UK readers, he only re-hashed the steps, albeit nicely, to tie the good ole perfection loop.

This knot is essential for good basic fly fishing as a knot for loop-to-loop connections, and is useful in fly and lure-fishing situations where you want to add motion to the fly by using a loop connection instead of a standard knot like a improved clinch knot or tucked half blood knot etc.

The perfection loop does exactly what is says on the tin if you will. It is easy to tie and has amazing knot strength. In my opinion, it is simpler to tie than the rapala knot unless the lure is quite large. Good tying and fishing!
