I was rec"Recently,
I was fortunate enough to spend some time in Brittany in the expert
hands of Dr. Sam Davis, casting instructor extraordinaire!
Ive
been fly-fishing for a good few years now but, unbeknownst to me, I
had clearly picked up some sloppy habits, making my casting
cumbersome and inefficient and not at all pretty!
Sam took
me right back to the basics and, through a brief series of simple
guided steps, he has opened my eyes to how simple a good cast can be
if you remember some basic principles, and work on them.
I would
recommend anyone who has the opportunity to spend a little time with
this maestro, as the tuition is not only extremely beneficial to
ones casting and fishing generally, its also a lot of fun."

Sam, the
original Fishinista, is a fully-licensed professional
fishing guide or 'guide de pêche professionnel' (siret
no.481 133 023 00012) specialising in fly and lure fishing for fresh-
and saltwater gamefish. Besides having 40 years of game, coarse and
predator fishing experience, Sam also holds a research PhD
in fish anatomy, biology and evolution which he received from
University College London in 2002.
Since
January 2007, Sam has been an official 'Depositaire' selling all
required freshwater fishing licenses to his clients and visiting anglers.
Sam is
an ardent supporter of 'catch and release' fishing, where the
photograph, CD album, video, or website pic becomes the primary
trophy. However, those visiting anglers who want to keep a spring
salmon, bass, or shad for the table are welcome to do so.

Sam's
fishing and casting talents have been showcased in UK fly fishing
magazines such as Trout Fisherman and Fly Fishing
and Fly Tying, Finistère Passionnément, one
of Brittany's finest outdoor-themed journals produced by Bretagne Magazine,
in
French newspapers, (e.g. Le Telegramme, Le Connection
and Le Progrés), and most recently in Irish
Angler magazine (see Hybridise your Lure Fishing in the May, June,
and July 2010 issues).
Sam is
also seasoned casting instructor and tournament caster with
competitive experience at British and World level. In August 2005,
Sam was certified by the IGFA as the 'all-tackle'
and 'fly-caught' world record holder
for the Allis
shad which
was caught in the lower reaches of his adopted French river, the
Aulne. He is also the founder of the British Fly Casting Club.
