Unlike St Michel reservoir which is
characterised as a shallow, weedy impoundment, lake Guerledan (Lac de
Guerledan) is more mysterious with its deep drop-offs and rocky
outcrops. Anglers keen on pursuing toothy predator species such as
zander and pike, along with the colourful perch, will not be disappointed.
To fish this lake, you need to possess an
appropriate Finistère fishing permit (e.g. day, holiday,
annual) then purchase a L'EHGO stamp from Sam (currently 30).
The L'EHGO stamp also entitles you to fish a huge swathe of
departments within France for a complete year. Guerledan is
considered a class 2 water, so you will not find rainbows.
The lake management allows most sporting
techniques including fly and lure fishing, trolling and jigging. Bait
fishing is also allowed and is popular for those wanting to explore
drop shot methods without using lures. Guerledan is also opened for
the majority of the year which offers value for money for resident anglers.
Boat fishing is by far the best way to
explore and fish lake Guerledan as it is steeply-sided on many banks
and is inaccessible in some parts. However, the authorities permit
boat anglers to use outboard motors, making it possible to fish many
different coves and straits in a day.
Sam will post more information about this
lake during the winter. Stay tuned...
